Genesis 3:6-13, 21-24
Sent Away

Genesis 3 raises profound questions: Why did gaining knowledge and wisdom drive Adam and Eve apart rather than deepening their understanding of one another? Why did God send them from the Garden rather than Satan? And what was Satan doing there in the first place?!?!

Questions like these can focus our attention on God’s judgment and when we focus on judgement, we can be blinded to his salvation. Despite the punishment, being sent away from the Garden marked the beginning of our longing for home. From that moment, Scripture traces a story of exile and return, loss and restoration, ultimately pointing toward the sacrifice God would make, enabling us the opportunity to come home forever.
