“What do you want to do when you grow up?” is a question most of us have heard, yet far less often are we asked, “Who are you becoming?” And still, who we are—our character, our hearts, the way we carry ourselves—shapes how we live. In the stories surrounding Jesus’ birth, we see clear contrasts: humble worship vs. anxious resistance, trust vs. retreat, faith vs. fear.
When left to ourselves, we so easily drift toward anxiety and fear. Advent, however, offers us a gracious invitation to slow down, to listen, and to reflect on who we are becoming. As this season comes to a close, may we loosen our grip on what we feel pressured to do, and instead attend more deeply to the kind of people God is forming us to be.
